Ashford Festival in the Park

image001The weekend of Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th July sees Ashford’s North Park host a festival of free live music in the annual ‘Ashford Festival in the Park’.

The event came about after organiser Edward Lockett and a group of friends wanted to try and raise some money for the Tsunami appeal by means of a small scale gig of live music.

Now going strong in it’s fifth year, the festival has become an annual event and attracts a fair crowd in support.

On site will be a traditional fun fair, various food vendors, exhibitions and the obligatory beer tent.

Edward Lockett’s comments:
We try to focus on local bands and dance troupes, all of our performers do so for free, we also decided that we will never charge entry to the event and so we go, cap in hand to local businesses, councillors, and members of the public to enable us to give what we believe is the best show that money cannot buy. We also stage various musical events throughout the year. When we do manage to make some money we donate it to selected local performance arts groups, the maib beneficiary being Ashford Youth Theatre.”
