Margate’s Winter Gardens have once again managed to secure another top band for their stage.
Mid-way through their world tour to promote their latest album; Konk, the 16th July sees The Kooks visit Kent for a unique show at the Margate venue.
Hailing from Brighton in 2004, the band took their name from the David Bowie song ‘Kooks’ after forming at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music where they all studied. Virgin records signed the band in 2005 after witnessing them play the Brighton Free Butt Festival and, although reluctant to release a debut album immediately, the now critically acclaimed ‘Inside In/Inside out’ finally appeared in January 2006 after the band had finished extensive touring.
Their debut was well received, reaching number 2 in the UK album charts, giving them 6 top 40 hits (including the famous ‘naive’) and selling over 2,000,000 copies.
The second album; Konk, has reached number 1 in the UK album charts and the first release from it (‘Always Where I Need to Be’) has been their highest charting single to date.
Always a favourite on the summer festival scene, The Kooks do not dissapoint when playing live and you should try and catch them at least once. There have been rumours that work has already started to produce a third album.. watch this space!
